Keynote Lecturer
Meltem Şahin works as an Assistant Professor at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) Faculty of Architecture which is the oldest Architectural school in Turkey. She is also one of the founding partners of Fabric Art and Asma Germe Membrane Structures. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering from ITU in Turkey, and the PhD degree in Structural Engineering from MSFAU. Her area of expertise are the strengthening of historical buildings and tensile structures. She has involved in many international academic activities as a speaker and an organizer such as IASS symposium „Bridging Large Spans from Antiquity to the Present“ in Istanbul 2020 and worked in the international organizing committee of the Tensinet 2013 “Re Thinking Lightweight Structures” symposium held in Turkey. In the meanwhile, she has started to work on the analysis and design on tensile structures projects starting from 2000. In 2004, together with her partners, she founded Fabric Art Asma Germe. Since then, she carried out over 300 projects all over the world from design to the hand over. Hence, her experience is not limited to engineering but also in the design, fabrication and installation of tensile structures.
