The Venue

Textile Roofs 2025 will take place in the Aedes – Architecture Forum on the „Pfefferberg“ site in one of Berlin’s most central districts, Prenzlauer Berg.

Christinenstr. 18-19, 10119 Berlin

After reunification Prenzlauer Berg, colloquially known as „Prenzlberg“, first became a trendy district and then a well-off family district. Trendy cafes, pubs, restaurants, bars and clubs shape the lively character, turning day into night and the district into a tourist magnet.

The Pfefferberg itself is a cultural and artistic center for learning, teaching and research.

At the entrance to the site on Christinenstrasse is the Museum for Architectural Drawing by the German architect Sergei Tchoban. Right next door, the artist Olafur Eliasson and his employees work. The so-called South Courtyard is home to the Pfefferbett Hostel Berlin, one of the integration companies of the Association for Intercultural Work, as well as the MEINBLAU art and studio house with studios of 12 Berlin artists around a multifunctional project and exhibition space. The ICI Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry is also based there.

Ai Weiwei has had his studio in the Pfefferberg since 2015.

In 2006 the Aedes – Architecture Forum has also set up camp here. In its exhibition rooms it offers regularly changing exhibitions on international building culture and architecture. In addition, there are the seminar and event rooms in which we will meet at TR25.

The Aedes sees its task as bringing building culture and architecture into the focus of public interest and presenting and communicating architectural visions, sustainable city concepts, urban planning and landscape architecture. In over 350 exhibitions and accompanying catalogues, Aedes has presented renowned architects and current Pritzker Prize winners such as Zaha Hadid, Thom Mayne, Daniel Libeskind, Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas and Francis Kéré and their work long before they achieved world fame. In addition to more than a dozen exhibitions per year, accompanying symposia, lecture series and discussion evenings support external dialogue – both with specialist audiences and with interested laypeople.

The first day closes with a special guest lecture and a  joint barbecue at the workshop location. The workshop banquet takes place on the evening of the second workshop day, after a sightseeing trip by tour boat through Berlin.

There are several hotels and guesthouses in the immediate vicinity of the event location. Please search for accommodation around U-Bahnhof Senefelder Platz.

Berlin in May

Berlin, the capital city of Germany, has a long and fascinating history. It’s acted as the home of a number of major governments such as the Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany. At the end of the spring, the month of May brings increasingly warmer temperatures and consistent rainfall.

Rainfall

This month sees around 55 mm of rainfall, with that amount falling over 14. With a 40 percent chance of rain each day, it’s a good idea to have the umbrella or poncho handy when you head outside. Check the local forecast each day to know for sure what to expect.

Sunshine Hours

Fortunately, the clouds are starting to clear up at this time of the year, allowing the sun to peak through to warm the day. You can expect around nine hours of sunshine each day this month, ample time to get outside and see the sights of the city.

Temperature

Though they aren’t far apart, the average daily temperature of 14°C (about 57°F) is actually slightly higher than the nearby city of Grunheide. The difference is thanks to the warming and insulating effects of the roads, buildings and pollution in the city. As you’re packing for your spring trip to this part of Western Europe, be sure to bring layers to put on and take off as the temperatures fluctuate from the early morning hours to the late evening ones.

The lows still drop down to 8°C (around 46°F), so definitely take a jacket or coat if you plan on being outside during the coldest part of the day. During the warmest parts of the day, the highs jump up to 19°C (about 66°F), starting to edge into the summer heat. This month’s high is almost six degrees warmer than that of April, which sees a high of 13°C (about 55°F).
